Health insurance for your business employees is important. Conservative Canadian leader Stephen Harper recently offered a ringing endorsement of national health insurance in Canada, and even made a pledge to continue federal funding with 6% increases. Yet he gave an evasive reply to an accusation by a fellow politician that he was doing nothing to stem the growing privatization of the system.
Harper instead retorted that the accusation was baseless because it was confusing privatization with alternative (provincial) methods of health-care delivery. However, it is clear that this answer is merely playing with semantics, because many of the so-called 'alternative' methods do in fact involve privatization. Thus, instead of putting Canada in a position to stem the tide of privatization, it can be argued that Harper's policies are designed to water down the national health insurance system rather than to restore it.
